You will learn all about how to play Razz in our Razz Explained Series. Razz is an interesting game and is basically the opposite of the popular card game, Seven Card Stud. In Seven Card Stud, players are trying to make the best possible 5 card poker hand, while in Razz, players are trying to make the lowest possible poker hand (5,4,3,2,A being the best hand). Similar to Seven Card Stud, Razz is an ante based game. Before each hand, each player antes up in order to get the action going. Razz is a game that can be played with as little as two players and as many as eight players.

Razz Explained

  1. Each player antes
  2. Each player gets dealt three cards, two down and one up. The person with the highest ranked card, first by number and then by suit (Suit rankings highest to lowest – spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs) is the bring in and is forced to enter the hand for the minimum bet
  3. Each player gets an up card, also commonly referred to as fourth street
  4. There is a round of betting
  5. Each player gets an up card, also commonly referred to as fifth street
  6. There is a round of betting
  7. Each player gets an up card, also commonly referred to as sixth street
  8. There is a round of betting
  9. Each player gets a down card, also commonly referred to as seventh street
  10. There is a round of betting
  11. The player with the lowest five card poker hand wins the pot

A tip on scoring Razz hands, start with the highest card out of the 5 cards you are playing. Example 7643A beats 7652A.
